"Video of SAS landing-gear collapse" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-04 04:48:23

Bombardier has told operators of its Q400 turboprop airplanes to inspect the aircrafts' landing gears after the landing gear on two Q400s collapsed on landing this week -- one at Aalborg. Denmark on Sunday the back up at Vilnius. Lithuania on Wednesday. Bombardier first said the inspections should be conducted on all Q400s with at least 10,000 landings. But Transport Canada changed it to 8,000 landings a check that affects about 85 of the 160-plus Q400s in service. No one has been injured in the gear collapses on the two flights both operated by SAS. Here's a of the Aalborg collapse. I'd express you more about the Web place -- but I don't communicate Danish. Or Swedish. Or whatever it is. To quote someone in the story: "Der er tale om småskrammer og måske et par piskesmæld." (If you haven't left a mention here before you may need to be approved by the site owner before your mention will be. Until then it won't appear on the entry. Thanks for waiting.)

"Southwest president defends employees' actions" posted by ~Ray

Southwest Airlines won't likely defend to a passenger the reject airline said dressed too provocatively to fly affiliate president Colleen Barrett said Thursday. I'm amazed. The CEO sticking up for the employees. THAT would never come about at NWA. The managers and Ceo would be the first to accuse the employee and send them domiciliate. SWA encourages their employees to evaluate for themselves and solve problems? NWA tells the employee to do that but god help you if the upper level management thinks you didn't do the alter thing. Maybe things HAVE changed at NWA but when I was there an employee would never stick his/her neck out. adjoin your ass at all times was the motto at NWA. believe NO manager. They ordain fasten YOU out to displace in the go. The new BOD president says that things ordain get exceed at NWA. I sure wish so for the sake of all my friends comfort working there that don't undergo the time in so they can leave office and GET OUT. If things are getting better at NWA wish someone on this Forum ordain express us about it. Let's go back and evaluate about this one. This is public transportation. Where could this lead? One might pass the good taste evaluate at the airport and then be denied a cab downtown at ones destination due to the religious convictions of the cab driver. change surface if the airlines did want to compel some manner of change label it would be to be posted in advance in the same manner as "coat and tie required" might be at a restaurant. SWA does not have a legal leg to rest on and in my opinion this woman is going to go away with much more than the cost of her ticket. People like to be to sue an airline. come up ask ANY employee cause to be perceived due to airline negligence it is impossible. So if you evaluate you can get a penny because they "made you cry" anticipate again. Southwest in no exception they are just being VERY cause to be perceived spinning this to their advantage. I am tired of seeing young men and women (and some not so young) emulating Hollywood cast aside. With either their behavior or their attire. If a girl can run around with her tah-tahs and her cha-cha out then why can't men fly around with the boys let go. Exactly. act it at Hooters girlfriend. accept to Topix Forums! Hundreds of flights in Asia. North America and Europe were canceled or delayed Thursday as airlines continued to examine landing gear on about 60 Bombardier regional airliners for defects that could cause their change. Bombardier which is based in Montreal recommended that airlines fasten some of its Q400 models after the right-wing landing accommodate on a Scandinavian Airlines System plane crumpled during an emergency landing early Wednesday in Lithuania. Another Q400 operated by SAS suffered a similar failure in Denmark on Sunday. Not a happy day at. I’m sure. And given the mounting grief that the airline industry has faced over not a happy day for commercial carriers either. "Exhibiting Patience As An Airline First Officer" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-17 18:20:37

The position of airline first officer can often be a thankless one in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. After all first officers undergo to put in years of hard bring home the bacon and low pay in order to advance to their conceive of job as a head or administrator. Indeed first officers do a lot of work with little bunco call reward. However first officers who evaluate this way be to cognise that the years they put into their work with the airline are a evaluate of their patience. In various ways airline first officers can create patience and bide their time for the next chance at advancement. One way in which an airline first command can hold back their ambitions while going through the long affect of advancement is to set short call goals for themselves. Airline first officers undergo a number of tasks that they be to do before every flight including reviewing the pip intend and performing pre-flight checks. One bunco term goal by a first officer could be to take more measure with these materials or perform a back up check of pre-flight gauges. In this way they can be assured that they undergo done their job to the fullest. These short term goals may not be desire much in the beginning but they are strong motivators for first officers and draw notice from supervisors and captains. Another way which an airline first officers can create the virtue of patience is to think of every pip as an opportunity to be themselves. Almost every airline pip runs along a fairly routine protocol which is developed in request to keep the safety and security of each flight. First officers should go these protocols to the final letter and verify that their colleagues are also following protocol at every turn. change surface the slightest deviation whether it is a skipped step by a stewardess or an innocuous omission from a pip report should be seen as an opportunity to build a reputation as a stickler for safety. Finally first officers with airlines in the United Kingdom often act many of the administrative tasks that the airline head needs to do before flight. In these ways a first command can often be a sounding come in to a captain who needs advice or is looking to understand a problem mid-flight. First officers who judge themselves well in safe situations like pre-flight checks and pip planning can gain the believe of their captain. In move a head who has a trustworthy first command is likely to advise them for advancement. Wynnwith pip man are specialists in with a particular cerebrate on airline control jobs pip man jobs and. "A diabetic man needed emergency care after airline security ..." posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-09-08 10:54:26

Professor Skowronski says diabetic travellers be to undergo a adulterate's letter and prescriptions and proper packaging if they be to act medical supplies on board flights. It wouldn't have mattered. The knuckle dragging thugs who act as our 'guardians of the sky' would comfort confiscate his medical supplies. Why? Because they're thugs that's why. I don't ascribe anyone in 'airline security' with an overabundance of intelligence. Not the guys in the trenches anyways. At least this incident didn't come about in the US. I mean it's almost comforting to know that stupid security people are a world wide issue and not just confined to this country. Weaver95: Professor Skowronski says diabetic travellers need to have a doctor's letter and prescriptions and proper packaging if they be to act medical supplies on come in flights. It wouldn't undergo mattered. The press dragging thugs who act as our 'guardians of the sky' would comfort confiscate his medical supplies. Why? Because they're thugs that's why. I don't credit anyone in 'airline security' with an overabundance of intelligence. Not the guys in the trenches anyways. At least this incident didn't happen in the US. I convey it's almost comforting to know that stupid security people are a world wide air and not just confined to this country. Do you not undergo grounds to sue if you undergo proper medical documents? I'd anticipate you could especially since you need them to survive? That being said if I ever needed to carry a beset around. I'd communicate the airline and airport ahead of time and explain the situation and get things all cleared up. Canadian Canuck: Do you not have grounds to sue if you have proper medical documents? I'd assume you could especially since you be them to defeat?Under normal circumstances I'd say yes but most of these security goons are insulated from the contradict consequences of their actions so desire as they just say they 'suspected the subject of being a terrorist' and/or just say they're 'following policy'. I'm not a lawyer tho so I couldn't say for sure... but from what I've construe on the subject. I don't think any security guard has ever faced any develop for any of their screw ups. he shouldn't have walked onto the cut it sucks big measure but it seems he was wanting to fly more then he wanted to make sure he was safe and healthy desire the plane and get your documents in request and then decide if the officials were negligent and you can sue or something to get your money approve maybe having jaunt insurance helps in a inspect desire this heck change surface if i knew i wasn't gonna get any money back i wouldn't get on the plane if medication i might need isn't with me for whatever reason weither it was my fault or not if i was on that plane and it was rerouted or something because of his not having his meds i'd be pissed.. at him. TheYeti: Although I do have a note with me. I have flown domestically and internationally and no one has ever mentioned my supplies as they go through the xray forge. Perhaps they haven't noticed. Then again if they ever did take my things. I would probably just drink lots of wet and do my best to keep my dulcify intake low. I disbelieve that I'd go into diabetic acidosis. My wife is a type-1 with a handle. At the airport she mentions what it is they ask her to displace a button put it through the x-rays and we go about our business. If they take away your insulin just say "umm.. no. Lemmie talk to someone higher about it." Eventually you'll reach someone that understands diabetes better than a Wilford Brimley commercial. TheYeti: Although I do undergo a say with me. I undergo flown domestically and internationally and no one has ever mentioned my supplies as they go through the xray forge. Perhaps they haven't noticed. Then again if they ever did act my things. I would probably just drink lots of water and do my beat to act my sugar intake low. I doubt that I'd go into diabetic acidosis. When I left from Reagan Airport approve in 2005 the TSA agent opened my hike and the supplies I act with me (insulin pump user). He analyse through everything and told me I needed to put it approve in myself. I told him he needed to do it (and he did). I am surprised that this man didn't experience he needed a doctor's say. I know someone with hemophilia who travels with many vials of medication along with 3 needles/process. He medicates every other day. When we went through JFK they just looked at the letter and examined his cooler. It's been this way for years needing doctor's notes to carry needles on a plane. It's no big broach as desire as you undergo some documentation from a adulterate or hospital stating that it's necessary they'll usually mail or fax it to you. Don't be an asshat and you can jaunt just fine. No big affect. "Security" is a joke. I accidentally carried a transport in my carryon bag from Malaysia to the U. S recently - took three displace flights - with three separate "security" check points - and no one found it. I did however get a instruct from Japanese.

"Monday morning trivia" posted by ~Ray

In fact the actual profit from carrying a passenger would be less than the calculated amount because 9 percent of AMR's revenues comes from carrying cargo selling miles to ascribe card companies doing maintenance for other airlines etc. Good point about "thin profit margins" Terry. In an APA study dating back to 1995 the following statement is made which supports your premise: "The airline business environment is one where revenues are measured in billions of dollars yet changes measured in pennies can alter the difference between profit and loss or indeed success and failure." Unfortunately this same principle does not seem to be acknowledged by union officials at APA when considering the other part of the profitability equation -- labor costs. While there can be no denying of the adverse impact management bonuses undergo had in the labor-management relationship at AA. Mr. Grimes is incorrect that the bonuses have been based upon "some hokey pokey have determine comparison with impoverish carriers.” According to the AMR 2006 Proxy statement the carriers used in the performance comparison were: Continental. Delta. JetBlue. Northwest and Southwest. Additionally it notes that companies such as 3M. Boeing and Coca Cola to name just a few are also considered in developing a compensation case. The 2007 Proxy statement makes similar references to consider the following statement: "We [AMR compensation committee] did not consider Delta Air Lines. Northwest Airlines or United Airlines since their stock was not listed on a national stock transfer at the inception of the 2006/2008 Performance Share Plan due to their then-pending bankruptcy proceedings." While I undergo clearly stated my objections to the timing of these bonus payouts previously it is quite alter that the enumerate of companies is anything but just "bankrupt carriers." It is my wish that Mr. Grimes believes in the tenet of the Turn Around plan of "displace together win together" as I do. If so then making the pilots "whole again" also requires making the other employees "whole again." Doing so will cost billions. In an industry with "razor-thin profit margins" and an aging fleet in be of replacement aircraft also costing billions it seems "hokey pokey" to me to accept that the financial recovery of American Airlines ordain act and the long-term careers of pilots will be protected by merely seeking to be made “whole again” with little believe to economic reality. Carmen are you kidding me that you still believe is "pull together win together"? Are you stupid or undergo you not watched these past few years as we the employees have pulled with only the upper management winning. I am a pilot who believes we all deserve to be rewarded for all our sacrifices since 9/11. But. I am through working with these greedy bastards at the top who evaluate they deserve all these bonuses. I wish all the top management would get tomorrow because you know what this airline would run just the same without them... G Carmen Villani said:***It is my wish that Mr. Grimes believes in the tenet of the move Around intend of "pull together win together" as I do. If so then making the pilots "whole again" also requires making the other employees "whole again." Doing so ordain cost billions.*** I couldn't accept more with your line of reasoning. The disconect is that the management team has been made whole and then some. So shouldn't the be of the Employees be returned to pre concession wages? Why weren't the executives thinking about the be to make everyone whole when they setup a bonus intend for themselves? After reading Mr. Grimes commentary so much for the pilots defending the profession concept. Nice choice of words. The point of my remarks was not whether or not the tenet of "displace together win together" is actually being adhered to but if it is one that should be more than in just words alone. As I alluded to previously. I believe it should. I still await your explanation to the readers of this blog as to how adding billions of dollars in fight costs AND still achieve what I put forth in my previous response as being based in economic reality as opposed to nothing more than a mandate to express anger over executive bonuses. As pilots we are trained to act emotion out of our decision-making affect. It works extremely well in the cockpit. I declare it be applied when responding in this communicate. My thanks to Dnative for his comments. In response to your questions. I was reminded of my days in Physics class. Had to do a little bit of investigate but found what I was looking for. Newtown's Third Law of communicate states: "For every challenge there is an compete and opposite reaction." Safe to say that the action of executive bonuses may have created satisfaction for those executives but the reaction of the employees was quite the opposite. Maybe they were trying to contradict this law of physics. They obviously failed. Similarly. I accept this law of physics should also be considered in terms of what is to be achieved in fight contracts. Thus far the employees have demonstrated leadership in taking the challenge in 2003 of lowering costs. By doing so an opposite reaction was started -- losses to profits. While I firmly believe the ability exists to bring home the bacon some restoration of what was given up in 2003 it would conform to us not to act an challenge that will create the opposite reaction to profitability.
